Trudy Stewart was a 60s Scoop Survivor and a former Statement Gatherer for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. As part of this journey, Trudy wanted to capture the intimacy of listening to statements from survivors and, through this experience, she also was going through a period of self-discovery of the impact of the Residential School Legacy had on her and her family.

While she valued the upbringing she had with her adopted family she had wanted to make a deeper connection with her biological family. This film was that first step on that journey. Sadly, she passed away October 28, 2019 and left behind her two children Josh and Cali Stewart, both of whom were the centre of her life.

While she passed away at a young age, she left a deep impact and rich legacy in the Saskatchewan and Indigenous filmmaking communities. What Trudy taught the world was that films can be made with care, compassion and empathy while offering lessons and teachings that are carried like sacred medicine bundles such as the film From Up North.
